Find a starting palette in an image.

A character, landscape or piece of artwork can be the starting point for a new color scheme. Choose an image and get its dominant color groups. Click any swatch to copy the hex code, or export the complete set as CSS variables or a JSON file.

How the palette is selected

The tool reduces the longest image side to at most 256 pixels for analysis. It groups opaque pixels into RGB buckets with 16 levels per channel, averages the colors within each bucket, and selects the most frequent groups. It favors areas that occupy more space; a tiny accent color may not appear.

This is deterministic color grouping, not AI generation. Similar colors can remain in separate buckets, and a requested eight-color palette can contain fewer than eight colors when the image is simple. The JSON counts refer to sampled pixels, not necessarily the original image’s full resolution.

Can I export colors for my website?

Yes. The CSS download defines variables such as --color-1 in :root. Check text contrast separately before using a palette in an interface.

Does this match paint, beads or thread codes?

No. Hex values describe screen colors. This tool does not claim a match to physical materials or proprietary color systems.

Try the palette with the scrolling text maker.
